19 June | Workshops

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict

FROM WORDS TO ACTIONS: SEXUAL VIOLENCE IN CONFLICT AND THE ROLE OF CIVIL SOCIETY IN THE FIGHT AGAINST IMPUNITY

The workshops that will be conducted throughout the day aim to reinforce collaboration among non-state actors in their work to strengthen access to justice for victims of conflict-related sexual violence.

The objective of the workshops is threefold:

  1. To review the progress made and the challenges identified in the fight against impunity for sexual violence in conflict.
  2. To present the tools and strategies that have been developed by participating organizations to reinforce access to justice for victims. Each stage of the judicial process will be examined so as to consider a variety of issues relating to the prosecution of sexual violence crimes, such as the use of forensic expertise, documentation and safeguarding evidence, location of suspects, and training of local actors.
  3. To identify, in a collaborative manner, the existing needs and the tools to be developed in order to respond to those needs.

A “toolbox” will then be made available to all civil society actors working in the fight against impunity for sexual violence in conflict.

Support

The event is supported, among others, by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, the City of Geneva, the Cottier Donze Foundation, the Barbour Foundation, the Geneva Bar Association LALIVE and a private foundation in Geneva.

In order to make this event possible, we are still in need of financial support. Help us to give a voice to victims of sexual violence and to strengthen the fight against impunity.
