Behind each case is a courageous victim

Dear friends,

A few weeks ago, TRIAL International published its 2016 activity report. Thanks to our dedicated staff and generous donors, we have helped over 400 victims and trained more than 160 lawyers and human rights defenders.

These figures prove that justice is a real force of change. Each case speaks of a victim whose courage erodes impunity – even if it takes decades.

This month, I will be defending the case of Mr Naït-Liman v. Switzerland before the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights. This man’s combat started in 1992, after he was tortured for six weeks in Tunisia. Now his case could become a significant milestone, enabling refugees to seek justice and reparation in a European host country.

We take this opportunity to salute the resilience of each and every victim we have supported. They are the ones driving the fight against impunity. We are proud to be at their side until justice is served.
