Fighting sexual violence,
defending fundamental rights
Dear friends,
Monday 8 March will mark International Women's Rights Day and we would like to pay tribute to all women who are fighting with dignity and courage for their fundamental rights.
Wartime sexual violence primarily affects women. Too often invisibilized and still taboo, this crime should nonetheless be characterized, whenever possible, as an international crime. TRIAL International is actively working to ensure that the perpetrators are prosecuted and the victims duly compensated. In particular, it calls on Bosnia and Herzegovina to respect its international commitments in that regard.
Which news from the African continent? In The Gambia, transitional justice is following its course. And TRIAL International welcomes an encouraging sign in Burundi, even if the road towards the rule of law is still long.
As usual, we thank you for your support and wish you a pleasant read,
The TRIAL International team
