Call for Applications: Training on Monitoring, Documentation and Reporting of Serious Crimes Committed by Economic Actors

AFRILAW is a Nigerian non-profit and non-governmental organization with a mission of promoting rule of law, human rights and justice for sustainable development of the society, people and the planet in Africa and across the globe. AFRILAW is a leading NGO with a strong support and partnership of key national and international stakeholders in advancing private security governance and reform, and responsible private security services in Nigeria since 2018.
OEARSE is a renowned Congolese organization committed to the fight against corporate crime. With 14 years’ experience across different regions of the DRC, it enjoys the support of several international organizations. OEARSE is one of the players working to improve the governance of Private Security Service Providers (PSP) in the DRC.
ICoCA (International Code of Conduct Association) is a multi-stakeholder initiative created in 2013 to ensure that private security service providers respect human rights and humanitarian law. It serves as the governance and oversight mechanism for the International Code of Conduct for Private Security Providers (“the Code”). ICoCA’s mission is to raise the standards and practices of the private security industry that respect human rights and international humanitarian law, and to engage with key stakeholders to achieve widespread global adherence to its Code.
TRIAL International is a non-governmental organization based in Geneva, with offices in the DRC, whose mandate is to fight impunity for international crimes and support victims in their quest for justice. The organization provides legal assistance to victims, documents, investigates and brings cases to court, builds the capacity of local actors and advocates for human rights. TRIAL International has successfully collaborated with other NGOs in the past to document serious crimes, and to sensitize and mobilize survivors for legal action.
Preliminary Information
The partner organizations will organize a training course in the week of November 10, 2025, aimed at Nigerian CSOs engaged in documenting, monitoring and reporting serious crimes committed by economic actors, particularly in connection with the use of private security. The training will cover techniques for documenting human rights violations; victim support according to international standards and legal frameworks governing the activities of private security companies and service providers.

- A minimum of 10 organizations selected (2 participants maximum per
organization, ensuring gender balance).
This activity is organized within the framework of the Corporate Accountability Initiative (CAI), a consortium of partner organizations. Its aim is to strengthen accountability for human rights violations committed by economic players along value chains. The CAI places particular emphasis on the activities of Private Security Service Providers, promoting violation prevention and corporate responsibility on a global scale.
After the training program, successful candidates and their organizations might be engaged in the field to monitor and document cases of human rights violations in high-risk areas committed by PSPs and companies. Additionally, participants who require further support may receive mentoring based on individual interviews conducted by the trainers in parallel with the training.
Applications and Selection Process:
1. Selection Criteria
Interested civil society organizations must meet the following conditions:
- Have an organizational mandate including prior experience in documenting human rights violations and/or monitoring private security services and/or companies
in high-risk sectors;
- Be a Nigerian civil society organization with relevant expertise and interest in the
above-mentioned areas;
- Have been very active and operational for at least 3 years;
- Experience in making contact and working with victims of human rights
violations and affected communities;
- Experience in documentation of human rights violations for judicial purposes
would be an asset.
2. Documents To Be Submitted:
- Incorporation/registration and mandates of the organization;
- A report or any other relevant evidence in connection with the documentation of
human rights violations and/or the monitoring of private security services;
- A letter of Expression of Interest explaining how the organization meets the above
criteria and why it wishes to participate in the training.

After an initial selection based on document review, a short interview may be arranged with selected candidates only.
